Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre Helps Clients Take the Bus

Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre identified transportation as a key component in developing client independence. The most affordable and accessible form of travel in the Annapolis Valley is the public bus system; therefore, a course was developed to increase skills, reduce anxiety, and improve client’s comfort and confidence in using public travel. The bus course was created to troubleshoot foreseeable problems and provide flexibility to allow for individualization. The complete course is 44 pages in length and has comprehensive lessons on 21 topics.

Bridgetown’s 35th annual Ciderfest grand street parade drew lots of entries and big crowds on September 8, 2018 as dozens of entries walked all the way from the school to the fire hall in sunny but cool weather. The Sunset Community’s Thrift Store, Laundromat & Café opened in April 2018, offering meaningful employment opportunities to local residents.  They are currently serving 5 participants, with the goal of having up to 10.  To date, the Thrift Shore has  been able to operate successfully on donations only.

Meadows Community Celebrate Grand Opening of Community Garden

In June 2018, residents, families and staff at the Meadows Community, along with members of the community, celebrated the grand opening of their community garden.  Funded through a special grant received from the Department of Community Services’ Disability Support Program and supported by donations from members of the Bridgetown community, the garden will provide employment and skills development for two Meadows residents and bring enjoyment to the entire community.
